Mouse & Touchpad Click, Keyboard Not Working After Login

My Ubuntu laptop was running into a weird issue recently. Everything works fine when I’m at login screen. However, after login into Gnome Shell mouse click, touchpad tap clicking, and most keyboard keys are not working!

I can only move the mouse cursor and press Ctrl+Alt+F3 to switch to black and white text console. And there’s no problem when login with another user.

I can’t reproduce the issue. But if you like trying out different Gnome Shell extensions, customizing your desktop appearance, you might get into the same problem.

The problem can be fixed by resetting Gnome Shell configuration to its original status. However, reset -f /org/gnome command does NOT work as keyboard is not working after login.

As a workaround, do following steps one by one.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+F3 to switch to tty3 text console.

2. Type username and hit enter, then password and hit enter to login.

3. After login into the command console, run command to navigate to .config/dconf directory.

cd .config/dconf

4. Run command to remove and backup the config file:

mv user backup

Finally run command reboot to reboot. And everything should work again.
