The Ubuntu team has just announced the release of Ubuntu 16.04.1, the first point release of 16.04 LTS.

The Ubuntu team is pleased to announce the release of Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Long-Term Support) for its Desktop, Server, and Cloud products, as well as other flavours of Ubuntu with long-term support.

As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

According to the release summary, Ubuntu 16.04.1 fixed upgrade issues, smoothing the way for future upgrades to later releases of Ubuntu. It also brings a large number of fixes to Ubuntu Software, Compiz, LightDM, etc. And the snappy back-end has been enabled for Ubuntu Software (gnome-software).

How to Upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.1

For Ubuntu 16.04 user, just run a regular system update via Software Updater to upgrade to the 16.04.1 release.

Or run the command below in terminal / command console:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04.1

For Ubuntu 15.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 users, make a backup, disable third-party PPAs, and remove proprietary drivers, finally update whole system via the apt command above, and follow the guide in the release note.
