The latest long lived NVIDIA Linux driver series has reached the 384.69 release with Quadro P4000 with Max-Q Design support, and a few bug-fixes.
NVIDIA 384.69 features:
- New GPU Quadro P4000 with Max-Q Design support.
- Fixed an intermittent hang when using Vulkan to present directly to display with the VK_KHR_display extension. SteamVR was particularly affected by that hang.
- Disabled G-SYNC in desktop environments, such as Budgie, that use libmutter-0.so.
An existing rule to disable G-SYNC for libmutter.so no longer applied after the library was renamed to libmutter-0.so.
- Updated nvidia-installer to label kernel modules with SELinux file type ‘modules_object_t’. Some system SELinux policies only permit loading of kernel modules with this SELinux file type.
- Removed support for checking for and downloading updated driver packages and precompiled kernel interfaces from nvidia-installer. This functionality was limited to unencrypted ftp and http, and was implemented using code that is no longer actively maintained.
How to Install NVIDIA 384.69 in Ubuntu:
The official Linux binaries are available for download at the link below:
The “Graphics Drivers” team maintains a PPA repository with NVIDIA proprietary drivers for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10.
1. Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T, and run command to add the PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa && sudo apt update
2. Then you’re able to install the latest drivers using Additional Drivers utility.
For some devices, there may be a black screen issue after installing NVIDIA proprietary GPU drivers. It can be fixed either by setting NOMODESET in grub option, or removing the proprietary driver via command:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
You may need to boot into recovery mode -> root prompt, or press Ctrl+Alt+F1 on login screen to get into command console.
In addition, to remove the PPA repository launch Software & Updates utility and navigate to ‘Other Software’ tab.
