Nvidia 370.28 Adds PRIME Sync, Pascal Overclock [Howto-Install]

NVIDIA Team announced the release of Nvidia 370.28 yesterday as the first stable release for the 370 series driver in their short-lived branch.

Nvidia 370.28 adds over- and under-clocking support for GeForce GTX 1000 “Pascal” graphics cards, initial support for PRIME Synchronization to synchronize flipping between an NVIDIA PRIME display source and a separate PRIME display sink (requires X.Org Server 1.19), “PixelShiftMode” MetaMode option for 4K and 8K pixel shift displays.

How to install Nvidia 370.28 in Ubuntu:

The Graphics Drivers Team has made the binaries for this driver release, available for Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, and also Ubuntu 16.10.

To add the PPA, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa && sudo apt update

Type in your password (no visual feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter.

Then launch Additional Drivers utility and choose Nvidia-370 driver from the list.

After clicking Apply Changes button, it automatically downloads and installs the new driver in your system and you need to restart to make new driver take place.


For any issue, you can press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get into command console, type your username to login, and then run command to remove the Nvidia driver:

sudo apt remove --purge nvidia*

Finally reboot and re-install a previous driver.
