uGet is a cross-platform, GTK+ download manager for Linux, Windows, and Android. It’s a full-featured download manager that is still light-weight and low on resources.

uGet is available in Ubuntu Software by default, but Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, does not provide updates for the app. While Ubuntu 16.04 provide uGet 2.0.2, the latest stable release so far is version 2.0.8.

To install the latest release in Ubuntu, you can use the official uGet PPA:

1. Add uGet PPA.

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), paste the command below and hit run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plushuang-tw/uget-stable

Type in your password when it asks and hit enter.

uget-ppa

2. Install/Upgrade the software.

If you have a previous release installed, you can now upgrade uGet download manager via Software Updater:

upgrade uGet Download Manager

Or run the commands below one by one to update and install the software:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install uget

3. (Optional) To remove uGet, use Ubuntu Software or run apt command with remove flag:

sudo apt remove uget

The PPA can be removed via System Settings -> Software & Updates -> Other Software.
