Pandora Client Pithos 1.2

Pandora Client Pithos 1.2

Pithos, a native Pandora Radio client for Linux, has reached the 1.2.0, a new major release with a lot of cleanup and some UI redesigns.

Pithos is an open-source software. It’s much more lightweight than the web client, and integrates with desktop features such as media keys, notifications, and the sound menu.

While Ubuntu 16.04 provides version 1.1.1 in Software Center, Pithos has reached the 1.2.0 release that features:

  • Now use GSettings
  • Store password with SecretService
  • Add extensive keyboard shortcuts for the main window
  • Improve integration with Flatpak
  • Improve MPRIS support.
  • Remove all dependencies on dbus-python
  • Bug fixes, and more changes at release page.

How to install Pithos 1.2 in Ubuntu:

The new release is available for Ubuntu 16.04 in its official PPA repository.

1. Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to add PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pithos/ppa

Type in password when it asks and note that there’s no visual feedback while typing password.

2. For those who have a previous release installed, just launch “Software Updater” and upgrade the software:

upgrade pithos

Or just run commands below one by one in terminal to update and install this Pandora client:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install pithos

For those who don’t want to add PPA, grab the package “pithos_1.2.0-xxx_all.deb” from HERE.

3. (Optional) The PPA can be simply removed or disabled via “Software & Updater” utility under “Other Software” tab. And if you want to remove Pithos, just run command:

sudo apt remove pithos && sudo apt autoremove
