While Ubuntu lacks a powerful and easy to use audio recording application in its main software archive, here’s how to install Audio Recorder, an open source sound recorder for Gnome 3 and Unity, in Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, and Linux Mint 18.
Audio Recorder records sound from your system’s sound card, microphones, browsers, webcams, and more. It provides a timer that start, stop, or pause recording at a given condition. And it allows to select the audio source, file format, etc.
Audio Recorder Features:
- System tray indicator (available in Additional settings)
- Record sounds from installed music player
- Record Skype calls without any user interaction.
- Output file format: .ogg, .m4a, .FLAC, .mp2, .mp3, .wav, .spx.
- A timer that:
- start, stop, pause recording at given time, after a period of time.
- start recording on voice or sound
- Stop or pause recording on “silence”
- Stop when the recorded file size exceeds a limit.
- The recording can be automatically controlled by MPRIS2-compatible media players.
