NixNote, an unofficial Evernote client for Linux, finally reached the 2.0 stable release. The developer announced that:

In the immortal words of Homer J. Simpson, “WOOHOO!” NixNote 2.0 is up on SourceForge.

After about 5 years I’m finally crazy enough to declare it out of beta. There are still issues (there will always be issues) but I think this is “close enough”. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project!

NixNote 2.0 is mainly a bug-fix from the last beta. There also a few new features:

  • Added the ability to export a note as a PDF.
  • Added the ability to alter the default notebook.
  • Added a new material theme.
  • Ctrl+S will automatically save a note that has been changed.

How to Install NixNote 2.0 in Ubuntu / Linux Mint:

The official NixNote daily build PPA has made the new release for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 17.04, Linux Mint 17 & 18, and their derivatives.

1. To add the PPA, open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nixnote/nixnote2-daily

Type in password (no visual feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter.

2. Then install NixNote 2 either via Synaptic Package Manager,

install-nixnote

or by running following command in terminal:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install nixnote2

Uninstall:

To remove the software, either use Synaptic Package Manager or run the command below in terminal:

sudo apt remove nixnote2 && sudo apt autoremove

For the PPA, you can remove it via Software & Updates utility under Other Software tab.
